the Festal fortnight

The programme fol* "Waterlea Fortnight"!" was published in yesterday's issue! Cut it out. The "caUaret party" is not an offshoot of the Cabaret Club in Wellington which came so much in,to the limelight during the visit of the I/rinee of Wales to Wellington. It comprises local vocalists who are banded together to give the Waterlea movement a help along—"cabaret evening," His Majesty's Theatre, Monday, August 16th. "Countiy Day" on Thursday, August 19th. The organisation of the Spring Creek. Grovetown, Tua Marina^ Renwiek, Fairhall, and Lower Wairau districts is expected to produce splandid results. Lady members of the Horticultural Society are undertaking control of the "fiower stall for "Violet; Day." Contributions for the second-hand stall aa'e desired by the ladies' committee.

Hallenstein Bros. ; have kindly granted the ladies' committee the use of.the shop vacated by Williartis and Moseley during "Waterlea '•■ Fortnight.'"' This -will, be the ladies' headquarters on Saturday neit and the following Thursday and Saturday. An ancient recipe for the* making of a. rabbit pie included the statement that the first ■necessity was "to catch the rabbit." The citizens of. Ma/rlborough have caught the famous Brer, but they are now organised to make their "pie." Waterlea Park is their object.

The Tenth M.R. Band have been invited to participate' in the "Fortnight" festivities. Actions speak louder than words! The roll of honor for Waterlea. service includes the following Organisations: .Returned Soldiers' Association, The "Cabaret" Troupe. "The Scarlet Runners."' The Orpheus Club R.S.A. Orchestra. Perry's Orchestra.. "Tenth M.R. Band.

Opawa and Central Football Clubs^ Rugby and hockey authorities. Therel is ample scope for other organisations. Do what you can! The benefit will be mutual.

It is reliably stated that two prominent citizens have undertaken to give £100 each towards the Waterlea Park fund provided ten donations of £100 each, can be secured. Opportunity is golden.

The sports ground on Waterlea Park has been levelled, and the sowing of grass will be proceeded with in due course.

The publicity committee is securing the interest of the younger generation by means, of essay competitions amongst the senior pupils of the local schools and of Marlborough College. Prizes are being awarded for meritorious efforts.

The executive hns decided to award one prize of 10s and two of 5s to school children selling most tickets for the various "Fortnight" functions. This should appeal to the juvenile mind.
