A Te Awamutu Press Association message states that, following on a large meeting of parents, the Mayor (Mr Armstrong) has telegraphed to the Minister for Education stating that unless a definite assurance is given within, one week that a new school will be proceeded with, the scholars will be kept from school. Arrangements have been modo b> the Progress Committee for a display of viows of Marlborough's beauties n.nd industries and specimens of products of this province in an alcove of the new building of the Dominion Farmers' Institute in Wellington. The general manager, Mr Leigh Hunt, wrote recently offering space po that Maryborough might be represented along with other provinces. Mr Hunt, who had visited the Marlborough Room in Wellington, suggested a similar exhibit being prepared for his Institute. The committee, in deciding to accept the generous offer of space, has informed Mr Leight Hunt that the commitec.'s organiser, Mr Will Lawson, will make the' necessary arrangements on his next visit to Wellington.

During tho hearing of a test _by-law ease in Nelson on Thursday, Mr Fell, for the defence, referred to the recent decision of the Blenheim magistrate regarding th.o six-mile speed limit for mo-tor 'traffic- at street corners, niu^s'ubmittcd that the same reasoning should apply to the present case. Says The Dominion: Everyone who has occasion to travel to Picton or Nelson will be interested in the announcement that the services are to be improved within a month or two. It is stated that the Mararoa is to replace a steamer which will be used solely for a Wellington-Picton run. The,general expectation is that the vessel selected by the Union Company will be the Arahura, though "some. Marlborough residents cherish hopes of seeing the Loongana. Details as to sailing days are still p matter of speculation, nor is it known how the inauguration of a special Picton service will affect the present Wellington-Nelson-Picton run, at present a tryingly long and tedious journey for Nelson passengers. The time is over-ripe for improvement, in both the Picton and Nelson sailings.
