JAPANESE IN SIBERIA

A NOTE FROM AMERICA

[Press Association.] Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association PEKIN, July 30.

Tlio Japanese Government has received a communication from the United States pointing out tint America, is unable to recognise Japan's occupation of the northern half of the Island of Saghalien. It is believed that Japan will shortly reply to Washington attempting to clarify the official opinion and remove any misunderstanding over Japan's position. Baron Hani recently said that it would be detrimental to Japan's Interests to reveal what she was going to do in .Siberia, as long as she ivceived no satisfactory settlement of the Nikolaevsk massacre. Japan had no alternative, in view of the unstable Government of Russia, but to occupy Saghalien pending the establishment of a legitimate Government.
