CABINET-MAKING.
MB. MASSEY TURNS A THRUSTS
[FROM OtJ<E COBKESFOKPENT.]
WELLINGTON, July 14. An amusing Parliamentary interlude arose over Mr McCallum's effort to induce the Prime Minister to give Cabinet representation to the West-fcuid-iVelson-Marl,borough district, which, as he explained, had not enjoyed the privilege of being represented by a. Minister since the death of Mr Seddon, except for a fewmonths when Mr Colvin was Minister for Mines.
The Member for Wairau suggested in a most genial manner that Mr Hudson, of Motueka, would* strengthen and adorn the Ministerial Bench. (Laughter). "I am very much obliged for the suggestion," replied Mr Massey. '.'•One part of it is particularly valuable I am quite certain that Mr Hudson would make an excellent man. He is steady and reliable, is a good worker, and is popular and loyal; but my difficulty is that I have fifty friends in the Houee whose qualifications are somewhat similar." (Laughter.) . Mr Brown suggested giving Hawke's Bay a chance, but the Prime Minister sadly replied that there was, a statutory limit to the number of Ministers, and there was no more difficult task than to select a Cabinet.
