WESTWARD FOR WEALTH!
O.KARITO« TIMBER RICHES
Big developments are being undertaken in connection with the forest wealth of South Westland. With the great shortage of timber for all purposes, it becomes a paramount duty to bring timber from our forests to build homes and for industrial expansion in every direction. By doing so, those responsible will reap a profitable financial reward, for timber prices % are constantly rising as tho word's timber . shortage becomes more severe.
Great interest is being evinced in The Great Western Timber Co. Ltd., a new company being formed to operate timber mills at the port of Okarito, South Westland. The company has secured the rights over 10,000 acres, and , expects to be producing six million feet of timber after twelve months' working. At that rate the property will yield" timber for fifty years. Shares in existing timber companies have risen considerably in value during the past year or so— an index of thje future prosperity which a well-managed timber milling company must enjoy. The managing director of the Great Western Timber Co., Ltd., is Mr H. Gladstone Hill, of whom the Hokitika Guardian recently wrote: —"Mr Hill has a Dominion reputation for energy. He was lately before the public for his very successful management of the New Zealand tour of> the New South Wales State Orchestra. Mr Hill handled the business side of that great undertaking with skill and tact, and received the highest praise from all concerned
"A large venture such as is posed in the vicinity of Okarito will require good* management, and Mr Hill has the zeal and energy to put into it. We understand Mr Hill has inspected the whole prpposition personally. Ho visited the district, and spent some days, in going into all the details very carefully. He came away, we are informed j with the assured conviction a-s to the givat industrial scheme opened up, and he regards the undertaking as offering very attractive financial results. Along with Mr Hill will be associated several Ohristchurch gentlemen as directors, and this is a guarantee that the undertaking will be financed soundly from its inception."
