A FAREWELL LUNCHEON

(Received July 14, .3.5' p.m.) LONDON, July 13., Lord Denma.ii and Lord Islington, Sir Matthew Nathan, Sir Joseph Ward, Sir James Mills, Sir David Hennessey, and the Agents-General of Australia, and Canada attended the Colonial • Institute's farewell luncheon to Sir Thomas Mackenzie. Sir Godtjey Lagden, in proposing the guest'# health, said that Sir Thomas had taken a great part in the country's welfare during the past eight years.- He did great things to comfort wounded New Zealand soldiers, and the King had been pleased to confer a high honor upon him. They fully appreciated Sir Thomas Mackenzie's wonderful personality. They were grateful to New Zealand for sending, him to England. He (the speaker) also welcomed Sir James Allen.

Sir Thomas Mackenzie, in replying, said he thought that the. future of Britain arid the Dominions would surpass all expectations. He regretted tho increase in postage rates;, and advocated their reduction in the best interests of the Empire's trade. He thanked the Old Country for its hospitality to New Zealand soldiers, Who.came to assist the Motherland.
