Sir Auckland Qeddles. in a speech at the British Industries Fair, which yesterday was visited by the King and Queeu, said thaifc the fail' since its inauguration in 1915 had entirely , changed its character. It was tno j •onger an opportunity for a Tyuyer to fill lip gaps, bitt presented an opportunity to buyers from all parts >of the world to secure goods of .-any class desired. The Government was contemplating si further development namely,, showrooms on the* Continent and elsewhere. Sir Auckland Goddes stressed the • point that the only way to win back pre-war commercial prosperity was, by development of the export trade. At present the Home market was almost too attractive. Profits were .easily made, and biryers were clamoring for goods. It was the Overseas market upon which Britisli trade ?nust rely for a contin-uation of pros«erity. He suggested! the- advisability of business men setting aside a considerable part, of their goods for pale Overseas. He concluded by announcing that the Government was contributing £100.000 to guarantee the future of the British Empire Exhibition, which would be held in London from May to October, 1921.
