WAIRAU ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of tfye Wailau Road Board was held on Friday. There were present: Messrs C. G. Teschemaker-Shute (chairman), G. H. Andrew, W. G. Rudd, D: Bishell, H. Boyce, G. Bonnington, and G. W. Broadbridge. ~ T>e Returning Officer reported the results of the recent/elections. !

Mr C. G., Tescheniaker-Shute was re-elected chairman.

The ballot for the order of retirement of members resulted as follows: —Fairhall subdivision, Mr Bkhell; Wairau Valley, Mr Broadbridge; North Bank, Mr Bonniagton; Waihopai, Mr Goulter. . vlt was resolved to make an application to the Minister for Public Health for an additional representative on the Wairau Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.

Permission was given to the Summerlands syndicate to cany the party-line telephone on poles on the left-hand side of the .road for certain portions of the pi'oposed route, subject to the approval of the inspector. The inspector was instructed to provide bird-poison under the customary system at once. A resolution was passed providing for a general rate of nine-tenths of a penny and a general hospital rate of fifteen-sixty-fourths of ■ -a, v penny. The secretary's salary""'■was increased, to £150 pe-' annum. The inspector's report was read. It was reported that a pump had been erected on the reserve beyond the Hillersden school. :

It was resolved that tenders be callet? for the metalling of one mile of the Wantwood Road,, at two different places; that the matter of'a culvert on the Leefield road be left to the chairman, to interview Dr Adams;; that Mr E. Timjns's maintenance contract be remedied for a further period of one year, on the same terms as> at present.
