PALMERSTON NORTH, June 30. A tragedy occurred at Raumai, between Aslihurst and Pohangina, yesterday. A farmer named George Jackson, residing w-itli his wife and family, attacked his- eighteen-year-old son Thomas with a knife. A quarrel arosel in the house at dinner. 7t is alleged that Jackson seised a knife and .tabbed his son. Realising hat he had done Jackson saddled a >rse and . galloped .to Aslihurst, Trhere /medical assistance "was procured. The. young man was "brought to Palmerpton North Hospital. His condition became worse "late last alight, and the police -were communicated with and Jackson was arrested at ah hotel at Aslihnrst and 'brought to Pajlmerston 'early this morning. Ihe yourter man gradunlly became worse and died about eight o'clock. This morning the accused appeared hefore. the magistrate, Mr TTenrick Jackson, who was in, an agitated -condition,-, was'charged with assault :^nd , stabbing, and "killing his son, 'ThoftWo Jackson.
: Sub-inspector McKinnon asked for ■y remand for a week, nvhich was /granted. •
