Herbert Eaton Radcliffe, chief clerk of the Mines Department, was charged at the Magistrate's Court at Wellington to-day with forging vouchers, also with the theft of departmental moneys. The total amount involved is stated to be £200. The accused was remanded till Friday.

A curious relic was received by the Blenheim Borough Council at its last meeting. It' was the musty print of a lengthy poem entitled "The Battle of Bleinheim," inscribed to the Right Honorable Harley, Esq., who' was raised to tke peerage by Queen Anne with tlie title of Earl of Otxford, and played a prominent part in the histoiy of the British Empire. O'Meagher, the freeman of works, should be commissioned to tour the North Island and inspect the municipal developments of various cities and towns was favorably received by the Borough Council on Thursday night. An incident in connection with the war against submarines was related by Mr Massey at the civic function in Auckland on Monday. In one of the English porfcs he saw an oil-fuel vessel which had. been torpedoed by a German submarine. The vessel had aboard an old-style gun, but one that served its purpose.
