THE HOSPITAL BOARD.
MRS FRE!D REDWOOD ELECTED^
A popular feature of the election of three borough representatives to the Wairau Hospital and Charitable Aid" Board was the return of Mrs Fred Redwood at the top of the poll. For the first time in the histery of the Board a lady assume the responsibility of membership. The results were announced early in the evening, and were warmly applauded. The three first-mentioned candidates were elected:—Mrs Fred Redwood, 716: J. J. Corry (chairman' of the old Board) 581; W. Carr, 443; L. A. White 433: W. H. Macey, 407; C J. W. Griffiths, 309; informal votes 123.
Mr Corry appeared with Mrs Redwood, and said that the new lady member had asked him sincerely to thank the electors for placing her in the honorable position of top of the poll. He himself congratulated her, and, acknowledging his own - re-elec-tion, said he was perfectly satisfied in taking second place to her in the polling. Mrs. Redwood, and Mr Carr will replace as members of the Board Messrs E. H. Eccles (who. retired on going forward to . join the Expeditionary Forces) and Mr W. H. Macey, who was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection.
The large proportion of informal votes is a matter of conwrient. It is understood that Mr L. A. WTiite, who \ra<s defeated for a place on the Board' by 10 votes, applied for find has obtained a recount in his behalf. , -' '■
