MARSHLANDS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP.

! HIGH SCHOOL DEFEAT WAIRAU

i Before last Saturday's match Wai- ' ran required to obtain _ two S-point : wins against High School to bring, them level with Marshlands, and on ; the result oi: previous ■matches it was .' quite on the cards that Wairau would , achieve their object. They, however, were doomed to disappointment, • for High School, aided somewhat by th<> weather conditions, surprised both themselves and their opponents by gaining a meritorious victory— their first this season. Wairau won the toss and. sent High School in xv bat. but after two overs had been bowled rain began to fall and the . bowlers wore practically at the mercy of the batsmen. These condition^ lasted: almost throughout High School's innings. Their opening -batsmen, Robson and Edmonds, put on 43 before- a separation was effected, and several of the others helped materially towards a total of 114. Robson showed, more freedom .than usual in obtaining his score of 57. Allcott, bowling with the wind, secured 4 wickets for 17 runs, while NobleAdams secured 3 for 27 from the other end. Wairau's task of passing thru- opponents' score did not appear to l;e a difficult one, but, apart from R. JReid (40), Noble- A dams (26), and Day (16), the batsmen could do nothing against Brunette and Robson, who bowled throughout the innings, Avhich closed for .105, High School thus winning by 9 runs.
