Monday.

A welcome shower of rain fell at Ward on Sunday afternoon, 31 points being iegistered*. It will improve the chances of the late crops, and also assist in starting forage crops. Shearing has commenced in this district, and'difficulty is being experienced in procuring shearers. The annual general meeting of the Flaxbourno Settlers' Association was held on Saturday, when there was an attendance of twenty members. The «nuual report and balance-sheet showed a small credit a Fter reducing, the debt on the Town Fall by £43 and paying for a piano. A vote of thanks was passpri to the retiring president (Mr J. Devine) pnd the retiring trustees. The ballot for the annual election of officers resulted as follow^: president. Mr W. H. Smith; trustees, M-?.s«trs H. Loe (treasurer), W. McIsa.'ic. A. Forsyth, John Cunningham, W. H. Butt, and Alex, Thomson; secretary, Mr- J. J. Jenkins. Mr G. Hayes, the retiring secretary, generously offered to assist in taking charge of the hall, and received a hearty'vote of thanks for his offer and for his past services j>s secretary. It was resolved ■ that in yiew of the many public calls j for patriotic purposes the sports programme usually arranged for New Year's Day be omitted, and that the residents gather at the Domain on that day for a picnic. A resolution | was passed placing the local brass band under the patronage of the Afisociakion, and that it be known as the Flaxbourno Settler's Band.

Tho school children are to give n concert next Friday, and the committee have decided to donate the proceeds, which have in the past been used as a prize fund, to_ # the ladies' committee who are carrying on Red Cross work. The children have been under the* tuition of Miss Wallace and other ladies i'or some time, and a good programme is expected. Several parcels of goods for wounded soldiers have already been made, up and forwarded by the pupils.
