The lady members of the local Patriotic Society have undertaken to make the requirements for the full equipment of two beds for the hospital ship Marama. In response to Lord Liverpool's ai> peal for a special effort to raise additional funds for Red Cross purposes, the Indies of Havelock have decided to hold a "Hallowe'en" evening m the Library on the 21st inst., as likely to prove more successful than a .street collection.

Master Erio Buckman, of the local post ajid telegraph staff, has heen promoted to the gallery at Oamaru. He 1 wives to-morrow (Tuesday), via Picton and Wellington to take up his new. duties. The promotion is well' deserved.

Mr L. J-I. Scott, of Wellington, has licxm spending a few days' holiday with his parents in Have-lock. The. Rev. A. H. Heron leaves for Nelson to-morrow* to attend the annual Anglican Synod.
