THE ROUT OF THE TURKS
LONDON, May 24
The Press Bureau states: The utter failure and rout o.f the Turks had a .marked effect on tlie other two columns at Tigris and Karun. A rapid rise in the Kharkhah river and severe sandstorms delayed the British force advancing "to pheck the Turks and secure the "oil pipe-line, and tho Turks succeeded in retiring to Amarah, thus evacuating Persian terri-vtdry-t in Ajrabistan. The subsequent; -British operations Ayere- therefore confined to 'the'punishment of the tribes assisting the Turks. Their slight resistance was easily overcome. - Tt is officially that .%he Arab tribes who were assisting the .abortive Turkish raids. a on the Euphrates .'have been .punished, the British troops destroying their strongs holds and killing a number.
