HOKITIKA, March 23

The Hon. Mr Massey delivered a political address in the Princefes Theatre on Saturday night, in the presenoe of a large and representative. attendance, the Mayor presiding. The Prime Minister had a very cordial reception. His speech dealt with finance, freehold, second ballot, -the strike, public works expenditure, and fche Legislative Counoil. A vote of thanks and confidence in the Government was carried.

A DELIGHTFUL EXCURSION

HOKITIKA, March 23. The Prime Minister was dolighted with his, excursion to Hokitika Gorge on Saturday. He expressed great surprise at the extent of the Hokitika district and the quality of tho land. He ' desoribed the boat excursion through the gorge as a scenic view much superior to anything to be seen on the Wanganui River, and the whole of the bush surroundings were very fine. Mr Massey left this morning for Ross, where he received deputations and was entertained at luncheon. He will visit the site of the Mikonui bridge; and will afterwards return through" Rimu, where he will receive an important mining deputation. He will be entertained at a social at Hokitika in the evening.
