[Press Association.] (Reived A f^|^A a g n,| 3 John Brown, of Newcastle., giving evidence before the Miners Wages Board, said that recently ho was offered a two. years' contract lor supplying coal, but he lost it because he oould not give a guarantee. of continuity lii-supply. -The opening of the Panama Cattal would cause Newcastle to lose all its trade with the west coast or South America, which would be transferred to the United States. They .would also _,have competition from fndia and China.
