The president of the Auckland Exhibition, Mr G. Elliot, informed a Herald representative on Friday that the question of having boxing contests at the. Exhibition had not been before the executive, and it had not been discussed at all. He could make no statement about the suggestion until an application for permission to hold a contest had been before the executive. "I don't know whether we can, or will, grant permission, if it is asked for," he added.
At present the flax and the damper scrub of North Canterbury is noisy with the untuneful cries of the wekas, says the Lyttelton Times. Compared with other birds, the weka hatches early, ' and this year the queer changes of the season seem to have had' no effect upon the habit of the birds.
