ONAMALTJTU v. WAIRATJ. Another defeat, this time by 123 runs, was the outcome of Wairau's game with Onamalutu on No. 2 wicket on the Wairau ground. Onamalutu batted first, and compiled 88, H. Tarrant showing much freedom in scorkig 44, the only double-figure score. Good bowling by Ward (6 for 8) was the chief factor in Wairau fs small score of 38, Ferry (19 not out) being the principal scorer. A bad start by Onamalutu in^jbheir second
slender chance of'success; but the Wairau bowling went to pieces, and Lucas (46) and W.-Ward (21 not out) had a merry time. W. Mead ,scorod 10, and the innings closed for 99. Left with 150 to get to win, Wairau failed dismally, and the innings realised only 26. W. Ward, who took 9 wickets for 21, and Lucas (7 for 17) were—the pick of the > Onamalutu trundlers, while Edwards (4 for 14) amd Jackson (5 for 36) bowled with most effect for the losers.
