PATHETIC FATE OF A CHILD.
Four little girls were buried by a j fall of sand in a pit near Fairfield } shipyard, Glasgow. Three boys who i saw iihe accident at once set to work, \ and bravely persevered until they j had rescued three of the girls. They \ were not aware that thtsre was a , fourth child buried. It was only \ with much difficulty that t!he boys ; succeeded in helping the three to j their feet and getting them on to > the road for home. On arriving horne vtJhey were somewhat recovered,..; and one of the gii'ls suddenly recol- ' looted, after her fright, that a fourth I child, Mary Patterson, had been play- ! ing with them, and that> she had not ■■ been seen since the fall of sand. ;■ The mother of the missing girl hur- ; ried to the sanpdit and dug deep into the sand for, some time. Even- ; tually she came upon the child, biit' she was too late. The little body ; was lifeless.
