HIDDEN TREASURE IN VAULTS.

The Portuguese Government agents who are taking _ an inventory of church property in Oporto discovered hidden away in the vaults of the cathedral, a considerable quantity of treasure that had been gathered by the ancient friars. The accumulation dates back centuries, to the times when Portugal was a rich colonial Power. Cliests were unearthed that were found to be filled with gold ingots and plates, gold ornaments studded with enormous rubies, and altar furniture of pure gold. The discovery has caused a great sensation. It is presumed that the treasure will revert to the State under the Separation Law.
