BOXING.

"BILL" RUDD DEFEATED

Before a packed house at the Gaiety Theatre, on March 14, says the SydL ney Referee, "Joe" Costa defeated "Bill" Rudd after the full 20 rounds hadi been fought. The decision in Costa's favor met with a mixed reception. Rudd certainly forced the fight from go to stop, and scored with, a right to "the left, eye often enough to damage that part of Costa's face, but > this and -his -continued forcing mad© him run a good second only to his opponent's better defensive, work and cleanJblows by '%iaier hand. In tho fourth round Rudd appeared to injure his left knee, which he held1, ■and looked appealingly to Ms corner. He soon got over it, whatever it was, and kept forcing his much cleverer opponent, whose great defensive work and good, clean left to tho face, and right uupercuts in body and on chin, won the battle. In the seventeenth round" Ccsta's right in /the body as Rudd came in nearly put the New Zealander out. He doubled up, and hung on to his opponent's neck. The refereo separated them, and Costa, taking a hand in the forcing, gave his opponent a bad time. To sum up in a few words, the bettor boxer won.
