In-the large. hall of the Camberwell Mission in Toulon Street, S.E., over 500 poor children of the district were entertained at dinner and afterwards at, a conjuring and ventriloquia! performance as the guests jof British Columbia. The menu,was a simple one, consisting of roast loef and^ potatoes, and plum pudding. The banquet was the outcome of a visit by Sir John irk, director of the Ragged School Union, to * ictoria, 8.C., seven years ago. He told the children of that and other cities of the poverty of the children in London, and ever since there Las come from British Columbia annually a sum sufficient to provide .nearly 1000 London children with a substantial New Year's dirinKer and a good evening's entertainment.
