BELLE CROME BELL-RINGERS

1 On a recent performance of the above, who are appearing in the Town Hall on Monday and Tuesday next, the Waikato Argus thus comments: The residents of Hamilton had an opportunity last evening of hearing a performance by this much travelled company. The reports that had reached us through the press and otherwise had not been exaggerated, as was proved by the excellence and merit of each number, all of which were most enthusiastically received by the large audience present. Miss Belle Crome is a charming little artist, full of energy, whether it is in the violin, mandolin, sleigh bell items, or coon singing; it makes no difference to the merit of her performance. In the bellringing the whole company take part, and'the ensemble is beautiful. The audience were not slow to appreciate the specialty, and the latest craze,;,'' Red Wing;,'' which was spiritedly given on the handbells; Was received with manifestations of delight. A trio, "Ben Bolt," was also a delightful number. Miss Maude Jefferson, a lady gifted with a splendid and flexible soprano voice, received double encores in each part. Mr Will Hughes, the funny man of the company, with his quaint sayings and doings, kept the audience in roars of laughter. The two Arnolds proved themselves clever ' jugglers, and here, again, the risible faculties of the audience were extended to the utmost. Mr Crome, musical director,, had his hands full at the piano, and acted as accompanist during the evening. We may also mention Mr Harry Fane, a brother of Miss Belle Crome, who did yeoman service. His sleigh bell ringing in conjunction with Miss Crome was received with marked demonstrations of approval.
