[press association.]
SYDNEY, March 9
Giving evidence before the southern miners' Wages Board, the manager of the Metropolitan Coal Company submitted a statement showing that the cost to the company would be £42,000 annually if the miners' claims were granted, including an outlay of £15,000 to £20,000 on a railway through the mines to convey employees to their work. He added that the estimates given were all moderate, for he was confident that fhe~ men would screw the lost drop of blood possible out of them.
