SYDNEY, Jan. 2. The weather was fine for the holiday. Golden Slipper won Tattersall's Welter Handicap, beating Forte by a length; Safrano a good third. Time, lmin 40£ sec. MELBOURNE, Jan. 2. Bagot Handicap: True Scot 1, Trajectory 2, Active 3. Eight started. Won by two lengths. Time, 2min 36£ sec. Tattersall's Cup: Marlee 1, Lady Wilde 2, King Bee 3. There were 19 starters., Won by a length. Time, 2min 35sec.

Standish Handicap: Wai msey 1, Brookong 2, Cronge d'Elire 3. Sixteen started. A great finish. Won by a head. Time, lmin 15£ sec. Waihuku made a poor showing in the New Year Hurdles at Flemington.

Findowrie and Consulate were killed in the steeplechase. Their riders were uninjured.
