LONDON, Aug. 6. /* On Friday last the MacEwan Hall of. the University of Edinburgh was crowded by the graduates and their friends, the occasion being the medical graduation ceremonial. Sir Robert Stout was among the special guests on the platform. ■~,.-. , The degree of Doctor of Medicine was conferred upon the following New Zealanders: — «,,.' ~ Claude Ernest Addison Coldieutt, M.8., Ch.B. ,»1907, who was commended for his thesis, "A Contribution to the Bacteriology of Diphtheria." Patrick Wood Hislop, M.8., CM., Ch.B., 1889, who took as the subject of his thesis, "Cancer in New Zealand." ' _, _ Arthur Thomas Paterson, M.J3., Ch.B., 1907, his thesis being • "The Treatment of Some Diseases of the Air Passages." ' ' Charles Fulton Pattie (Auckland), M.8., Ch.B. (with first-class honors). 1907. He was awarded a gold medal for his thesis "Reconstruction of the Human Foetal Pelvis: A Study* of its Development." Francis Lidderdale Scott, M.J3., Ch.B., 1907, who wayS commended for his thesis, "The Cutaneous and the Ophthalmic Reactions in the Diagnosis of Tuberculosis, with Notes on 100 Cases." • , ' ~, , \ Cyril Hocken Tewsley (M.A.), M.8., Ch.B., 1906. His thesis was "Burns and their Treatment." (In absentia). • George Herbert Ussher, M.8., Ch.B., 1904, "The Present position of Spinal Analgesia." '. A good many New Zealand names figure in the list of those upon whom were conferred the degree of Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Surgery, viz.:—George Law Cawkwell, William Purvis Chrystall, Herbert George Feltham, Josiah. .Howard Lawry (Auckland), who passed the examination with second-class honors; William Stewart Robertson.
Charles Fulton Pattie, M.D., appears in a list with six others who are Thesis Gold Medallists. To the same New Zealandei- has been awarded the Goodsir Memorial Fellowship. The following are among those who have passed in pathology of the third ■professional examination for degrees lii medicine And surgery:—William. H. Johnston, B:A.; Edward B. Guiisbri,. Peter McNab, Harry F. Holmden, William Stewart, David C. Monro.
David C. Monro has also passed in materia medica of the third professional , examination for degrees in medicine and surgery. Sir Robert and Lady Stout and Miss Stout were among those present at the luncheon which followed. It was given at the University Union in honor of the honorary graduates. The toast of "The University" was left in the hands of Sir Robert Stout.
