DESTRUCTION BY FIRE.

[press association.] HASTINGS, April 24. At midnight a fire was discovered in Phillips and Wright's furniture factory. In thirty minutes the place was in ruins. The flames spread to Hallinan's (blacksmith) cottage, and the inmates were rescued by the police. The insurances on the factory are unavailable, they cover less than half the loss, which is considerable. Hallinan's cottage is insured for £150 in the Phoenix, and the furniture for £75 in the Standard. Later.

The total insurances on Phillips and Wright's building, stock and machinery are £1000 in the North Queensland. The loss is estimated at £2000.
