STATEMENT BY MR CARROLL.

NO TROUBLE ANTICIPATED

. AUCKLAND, March 4. . The Hon.. Mr Carroll states that H.M.S. Cambrian has gone to the Cook Islands with the Resident Commissioner, anticipating that the trouble at Manahiki and Rakahangu will be settled wwhout difficulty. The presence of the warship backing Colonel Gudgeon would provide a great moral force. No report was made to the British Government, because the Cook Islands are under New Zealand's jurisdiction. The Commissioner has full power to deal with the difficulty.
