PALMERSTON N., September 1. In the case against Harding, the solicitor charged with malversation, counsel asked for a remand on the ground that the accused was physically unfit to be tried. The application was refused, and counsel withdrew, alleging that it was impossible for him to do the case justice^ under the circumstances. The accused made" a long statement, 1 saying that his books and affairs had to be neglected through illness and. absence, and that it was quite a shock to him when he went to the bank and ascertained his position.
