DARING LEAP FROM A TRAIN

AUCKLAND May 16. A prisoner named Wm. Smith, while being brought in from the Waiotagu convict camp, jumped off the train two miles from Drury, and got away. The train was travelling fast, and the wardeir did not follow.

Smith was serving ten years for burglary and attempting to shoot a constable.

A strong force of police are scouring the country.
