FRENCH AND BRITISH METHODS MELBOURNE, April' BQ. Complaints regarding the inactivity *>f the Imperial Government in connection with the New Hebrides were referred to in the Federal House tonight. It was pointed out that the French Governor was on his way out, while no word of a similar British, official having being selected had been received. Mr Deakin stated tliat he liad cabled Home on tho matter six weeks ago, and the reply he received was that the Government was considering whom it would appoint.

It was resolved that it Was desirable that direct representation of the individual States outside the Commonwealth should be continued. MOUNT LYELL RETURNS. MELBOURNE, May 1.
