SOME AWKWARD ERRORS.
By tnV omission or alteration of a single letter the whole meaning of a sentence will often be^changed. Here are some instances of this, taken from various newspapers:— ! ,
"There were n^ bonier ladies present than the Mayor's two daughters, and this fact was further emphasised by the/perfect fit of tfee shepherdess costumes they.wore." Here,, of course, there was an " n " left out of the " bonnier." In another case, where the editor.of a country newspaper was describing a railway _ accident, an "h" became a " c " with the _ following result:— "Deeming it the safest course in the circumstances, the engineer put on full steam, dashed into the cow, and literally cut it into calves.' '
A society editor, misprinting the word chill, published this statement: " Mrs A. was unavoidably absent from the reception, being kept at home by a bad child."
