THE LAW'S PARAMOUNTCY.
" NO GOVERNMENT CAN SEE IT
DEFIED."
[PEESB ASSOCIATION.]
AUCKLAND, April 15. The Hon. Mr McGowan, Minister for Mines and Justice, on being interviewed regarding the Blackball strike, said: "At present it is impossible to say what the developments of the future will be." He added that the law must be paramount, and must be carried out.
' "No Government," continued the Minister, " can possibly stand by and see tho law defied. The public are apt to be hasty, and clamour for an immediate settlement of a rather complex situation. This is not, however, a matter which can be rushed through. It may be taken for granted that the Government will do what is right in the Blackball case, and the first thing is to collect the money. "What is more, there is no doubt that the Government will do it."
