EDUCATION AND RELIGION.

DEPUTATION TO THE BRITISH

GOVERNMENT

fPRZSS ASSOCIATION. 1 (Received July 26, 10.25 p.m.)

LONDON, July 26

An influential deputation of Catholics, headed by Archbishop Bourne (Archbishop of Westminster) protested that the new Government regulations must destroy the denominational character of training-colleges.

Sir Henry Canipbell-Bannerman and Mr McKenna (President of the Board of Education) upheld the equity of the regulations. They declared that they did not desire to impair the present character of the colleges. If the regulations did destroy the colleges the situation would be reconsidered, but the Government claimed a fair trial.
