IMPORTANT STOCK SALES.

WELD'S HILL. AND UPTON DOWNS SURPLUS.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agenej Company, Ltd., and Dalgety and C 0.., Ltd., in conjunction, conducted a sale of the Weld'.s Hill and Upton Downs station surplus stock yesterday at. the Weld's Hill yards, under instructions from Mr James Bell, tsHio has recently purchased these runs from' the Assets Realisation Board.

- About 7000 ewes and wethers were offered, and were a first-class line, in splendid 'condition, which speaks well for the properties in such a dry season. There was a fairly good attendance, -considering the long distance the buyers had to go, All the wethers sold went to Canterbury and Kaikoura buyers, while the latter also secured a big lot of the*ewes. Seddon and Flaxbourne settlers bought' most of the young ewes, and they have no reason to regret their purchases; as no doubt a better lot of three-quarter-bred ewes would be hard to find. Several horses were also sold.

Mr Bell supplied a splendid lunch, and treated all the visitors to the very best of everything. It was also a day out for the station hands.

At 2 o'clock Messrs J. L. Harris and E. F. Healy, the firms' auctioneers, commenced the sale.
