PRETORIA, March 23
In the Transvaal Assembly yesterday, Mr Smuts said he considered that the proposed commission of inquiry into the labour question would very likely lead to procrastination, which, he believed, was the object of the Opposition.
Tnis statement was received with angry protests.
Mr Smuts addjed that the Government would afford the mines the: promptest arid most effective help.^ltintended to tackle the question, and hoped to have a definite policy ready by June.
The Legislative Council lias passed the Asiatic Registration .Bill, 'and Lord Selborne, the High Commissioner, has reserved it for the King's approval. ,
The Legislature has adjourned until June 14.
