HOKITIKA, March 10. John Butland, a very old and esteemed resident, died 'this morning after a lingering illness. He was the father of Butland, the' well-known West Coast footballer.
The Westland Law Society passed resolntions last night as follows:—(1) Placing oirrecord its high appreciation of the eminent service rendered by Judge Ward during the last half-cen-tury, and on the eve of his retirement; expressing the hope tor his long life and enjoyment of good health and happiness; (3) congratulating; the. Hon. M. L. Moss, a former member of the Society, on the honor conferred by the Government of Western Australia in offering him; a Jndgeship in that State; (3) urging upon the Government the desirability of having the District Gourfc rules of procedure and scale of professional charges revised and amended, the same having been trained as far back as 1858. AUCKLAND, March 10. lhe City Council has decided to ask the ratepayers to vote a loan of £50,000 to provide electric light and power in conjunction with the destructor.
