THE VOUCHER ENQUIRY.
SPEECHES BY MR FISHER AN
THE PREMIER
[press association.]
. WELLINGTON, Nov. 28. Speaking on the report of the Audit Commission, Mr Fisher said that he believed at the time he made the charge that the men were honest, and he believed in their fidelity still. He believed that what- they saw was a genuine voucher, and he was not prepared to desert them even in the face of the Commissioners' report. He considered that the Government had treated these men like dogs. The Premier also alluded to the voucher question, denounced one candidate as a hypocrite of the first water, and remarked that he had his reasons for saying he would not get the reparation that was his due. The gentleman who ought to grant it was not over-modest. A certain application had been made and refused for a post under the Government. He (the Premier) did not know of this at the time, but he believed now that this was the motive underlying the charges.
