At a meeting of retail traders tonight it was decided to wait upon the. Premier to express disapproval of certain clauses of the Shops and Offices Bill. The meeting particularly objected to the proposals regarding a compulsory half-holiday on Saturday, and to payment of overtime as suggested in the Bill. Objection was also taken to six o'clock closing being made compulsory. Hawera, July 18. A meeting under tbe auspices of the Chamber of Commerce discussed the Shops and Offices Bill at length, and eventually decided to hold a public meeting, in which the farming community will be asked to take part, it being urged that country settlers' convenience should be consulted in the matter of the holiday.
