An Income Tax Amending Bill has been introduced in the State Parliament. It is intended to stop leakage to the extent of over thirty thousand pounds.

The measure provides for a tax on interest on foreign mortgages. Where the mortgagee lives abroad the mortgager will be empowered to deduct the amount of the tax from the interest due.

It is also proposed to make agents of shipping companies whose chief offices are outside the State pay a tax of 5 per cent, on outward freights and passage money.
