SENIOR CUP.
Awarua t. Wairau. This match was playocl on Saturday at Spring Creek, and ended in a victory for the former club by 7 points to nil, made up of a penalty goal and one kicked from a mark. The play was reminiscent of old time bullocking days, for only on one occasion was there anything like open play. The Awaruas made all use of their burly forwards. Their backs were, however, not up to the usual high standard. Obea, who played well in the first spoil, was completely at sea in the second. Bail played erratically, whilst Sowraan on one or two occasions only gave us a specimen of his oldtime trickery. J« O'Dwyer will persist in too much off-side pl»y, but to give him his due, he is a great club organiser. Carter, the Wairau half, played the best back game on the ground, his marking being exceedingly good, but he has a nasty habit of speculating. Esson and C. McLauchlan repeatedly saved their side. McDonald got the usual amount of bruises. This player will not pass, relying solely on his strength to bullock through. Jack O'Brien was again the place kicker for the Awaruas, and well did he perform his task. _ This virtually ends the Senior Cup matches, and the doughty Awaruas have now won the contest and retain the scalp for the fifth year in succession.
