Press Association. Electric Telegraph

Copyright.

Wanganui, June 22.

At the Magistrate's Court this morning a farmer was fined £5, and costs £5 4s, for failing to clear his land of blackberry, as stipulated by the Noxious Weeds Act, and failing to comply with an order of the Inspector. The fine was subsequently reduced to one shilling, the Magistrate (Mr Kettle) remarking the country would be better pleased if defendant spent the £5 in clearing his land. Four inspectors under " The Noxious Weeds Act" are engaged on this coast, and during the past season hundreds of acres were cleared.
