During the absence of his parents a boy aged 10, named Jary, presented a gun at his sister, aged 8, playfully, and threatened to shoot her. The gun happened to be loaded, and the little girl received the shot in the arm. She was taken to the hospital, and the arm was amputated below the shoulder. InvekoargiUi, June 22. At an inquest on Henry Currio, a miner killed by a fall of coal at Nightcaps, evidence was given that the mine was carefully timbered aud considered quite safe. A verdict of accidental death was returned, no blamo being attachable to anyone. A rider was added recommending that bars be used in preference to props in places near the outcrops where backs run parallel to the wall. The body of Donald Forbes, night walchman, who has been missing since the Oth inst., was found in the bush at North Invercargill on Sunday afternoon. Deceased, who was in ill-health, had evidently fallen exhausted, and expired without a struggle. Westpokt, June 22.

Thomas Lucas, aged 26, fell from the road to the railway line, a distance of twelve feet, last night at Mokihinui, and broke his neck. He was quite sober. The night was very dark. Deceased was a returned trooper, and employed at the State colliery.
