The district to be from Omaka to Tophouse All competitors to be bona fide residents of the district. All prizes to be trophies, 1. Nominations (with money enclosed, for the Wairan Handicap, 2/6; Half-Mile, 2/-; 220 yds Handicap, 2/-; 220 yds Hurdle "Race, 2/-; Throwing the Hammer, 2/-; Patting the Shot, 2/-; High Jump, 2/-) will be received by the Secretary at Wairaa Valley up till 7 p.m. on 20th December. Acceptances for Wairaa Handicap 1/6; others 1/-. Handicaps will be declared on, and acceptances close on the ground. Telegrams or letters bearing postmark of same date will be received if accompanied by cash. 2. Entries for all other events to be made with the Secretary on the ground* 3. Unless three start there will be no race ; four to start or no third prize.. 4. All protests must be in writing, and accompanied by 5/- deposit, which will be forfeited to the funds if the protest be frivoloaajpr vexations. Protests to be lodged with the Secretary within fifteen minutes of the finish of | the event. All disputes/ or objections arising ont of the Sports shall be decided by a .majority of the Committee present on the. ground, whose decision shall be final, and shall not be questioned in any Court of law. He is by Workman from blaze, by Sir Colin Campbell (imp.) from Bloss, by Young Prince of Wales (imp) Workman is by Lord Duamore (imp.) from Annie (598), by Kilbowie (73, imp.) from Jeanle Deans (263), by Pride of Scotland (602 in Highland Stud Book, imp.), from Maggie Craig (262), imported from Scotland by the late Mr Watts, who was offered 400 sovereigns for her when landed in New Zealand. Sir Colin Campbell, imported from Scotland, is sire of many of the best stallions and mares in Otago, and I grandsire to that celebrated stallion DickSeddon. It is thus seen that on breeding lines i Duke op Marlborough is the best | horse ever imported into Marlborough, ! and his appearance speaks for itself. Duke of Maryborough took first prize at Ohristchurch as a two yearold, beating Dick Seddon and others, ■ and second at Ash burton, where Dick Seddon secured first honors ; and as a thre9 year old he took first prize in the three-year-old stallion class at Blenheim, second in tfee open Clydesdale class, and second for the best draught stallion best adapted for breeding plough horses.
