The Supreme Court opened before Justice Denniston. His Honor, in his charge to the Grand Jury, said that practically there was only one case, covering two charges against the same person, which was not a serious record for the district for seven months.

The principal cas^ is one of indecent assault with attempt to commit rape, a case from the Matakitaki district, and there is a minor charge of stealing 5s 6d from the person. A young girl of 13 is alleged to have been assaulted.

The Court was occupied all the day" and evening in the hearing the case of indecent assault and theft against William Gregory. The case was not completed when the Court rose.

Wanganui, September 29.

In the Supreme Court, Andrew Mathieson was sentenced to twelve months for the theft of £2 7s 6d, the money of his employer. The Crown Prosecutor stated that since the charge was laid other defalcations amounting to £300 had been discovered.
