BOERS DEFEATED

De La Rey, on the 22nd, by means of a sudden swoop, tried to intercept the rear portion of a force of two hundred British returning from a reconaissan.ee at Hartebeestefontein,
A number of Imperial Light Horse, hard pressed, seized a kopje and fought intrepidly .for two and a half hours, until relieved.
The Boers sustained forty casualties.
