BREACH OF PROMISE CASE.
♦ [CHITED rBBBS ABBOCIATIOH.] Invercargill, June 12. The Supreme Court was occupied all day with a breach of promise to marry action — Sarah W. Thorn v. John G. McLeod, claiming £1000. The plaintiff is a daughter of an Invercargill resident and defendant is a divinity student and preacher well known m Otago. He practically denies that the engagement is broken. There had been no direct disagreement between the parties, but a letter was written by plaintiff's mother to the defendant's mother with reference to a member of the latter's family. The writ was issued before McLeod had time by post to deny that he intended to recede from his promise, and his m ten • tion, it is said, all through was to ask her to consider whether they could be happy if the families' relationship did not improve. The hearing has not been concluded.
