ANNIVERSARY OF CANTERBURY.
4ItJRITSD PBISB ABBOOIAHON.I Christohuboh, December 16. * The weather is beautifully fine though overoast for the anniversary holiday, and a cool east breeze is blowing. The prinoipal attraction is a floral fete at the show grounds, and at an early hour streams of people proceeded thither and kept up during the day. Splendid entries .have been received, and it is expected that a large amount will be raised for the improvement of the River Avon. The Christohurch Racing Club hold a meeting at' New Brighton, and a large number of people left by the Rotomahana for the Akaroa regatta. Numerous school picnics are being held m various localities, and trains to watering places are extensively patronised. The day is observed as a close holiday, not a business place m the city being open.
