THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM IN ENGLAND. openingTmatch. [DNITBD PBKB9 ASSOCIATION.! London, May 11. The Australian cricketers began the opening match of the year at Sheffield Park to-day, when they were opposed by an eleven chosen by Lord Sheffield. There was splendid weather and a large attendance, including the Prince of Wales, to whom H. Trott, captain of the visitors, was presented. The wicket was not the best* being rather lively. Trott won the toss, and decided to bat. Donnan and Darling were the first two to go to the wickets, opposed to the bowling of Pougher and Mold. Each batsman played with confidence, and scored freely. Darling gave the spectators a brilliant display of hard, clean driving-; but gave a hard return to Pougher early m the innings which was not accepted. With 84 on tho board, Jackson relieved Pougher. Received May 12, 1.55 p.m. London May 11. Donnan is not out with 24, and Darling not out 55, extras 1 ; total no wickets for 80. Received May 12, 2.45 p.m. The Australians have five "wickets down for 241.
